Louisiana Coastal Restoration and Protection Authority has just released the 2012 Coastal Master Plan. This document updates the 2007 masterplan and is intended to establish the path towards restoration and protection of the coast long into the future.
This document is a significant step forward for Louisiana. The plan states – unambiguously – the crisis that we are in and starts to lay the groundwork for change. According to the plan we CAN see a reversal of land loss within 50 years. But for this to happen we have to first pass it, and then implement its recommendations and projects. The making of this document, from the sophistication of the modeling to the care with which it has been organized and produced, is a great step towards building the momentum needed to build a sustainable coast.
